Lucia — The First
Lucia is confirmed as GTA VI's female protagonist — the first ever in a mainline GTA game. From Trailer 1, Lucia is shown being released from prison and quickly getting pulled back into a life of crime in Leonida. She is clearly the primary protagonist the story is built around.
What we know about Lucia
Former prisoner. Latina protagonist. Based in Vice City / Leonida. Partners with Jason in criminal operations. Her story appears to be the emotional core of GTA VI's narrative.
Jason — Her Partner
Jason is the male protagonist and Lucia's partner. From the trailer he appears to be deeply loyal to Lucia and operating alongside her in criminal schemes across Leonida. The Bonnie & Clyde dynamic is obvious and intentional — Rockstar has leaned into this theme heavily.
What we know about Jason
Partners with Lucia. Southern/rural background hinted in the trailer. Less backstory revealed than Lucia so far. Likely the muscle to Lucia's brains dynamic.
Two Protagonists vs GTA V's Three
GTA V had three playable characters — Michael, Trevor, and Franklin. GTA VI cuts it to two. This is actually a better decision for storytelling. Three characters spread the narrative thin and made some characters feel underused (Franklin especially in the third act). Two protagonists with a strong relationship can create a much more focused, emotional story.
Character switching confirmed
Like GTA V, you can switch between Jason and Lucia freely in the open world. Each will have unique missions and abilities. The dual-protagonist system was confirmed in interviews.

The verdict 💀
Jason and Lucia look like the best GTA protagonists Rockstar has ever written. The Bonnie & Clyde dynamic is fresh for the series and Lucia being the first female protagonist in mainline GTA is genuinely a big deal. If Rockstar writes them the way the trailer suggests, this will be the best story in GTA history. We are not okay with how ready we are for this fr fr.
